Welcome to our News & Insights page at the Hamilton Lugar School!

Headshot of John Ciorciari.
Dean John Ciorciari, Hamilton Lugar School

We have created this page to share timely analysis, celebrate school achievements, and highlight how our faculty shape global conversations. Drawing on our in-house expertise and that of visiting scholars and practitioners, News & Insights is your window into the world as seen from the Hamilton Lugar School.

Timely analysis and commentary from HLS faculty on pressing global issues, along with links to recent media features and expert perspectives.

News & Insights brings together three kinds of content:

  • Timely Topic: Fast, faculty-driven analysis on urgent global developments as they unfold.
  • In the News: Hamilton Lugar School faculty featured in national and international media, academic publications, and thought leadership platforms.
  • Faculty Q&A: World-class scholars provide clarity and context about current global events.

We encourage you to visit News & Insights often to stay connected to global trends and to discover the inspiring work being done every day by our students, faculty, and alumni.

Q&A with Hamilton Lugar Dean John Ciorciari

1. What role does faculty expertise play in helping the public make sense of today’s complex international challenges?
Most global issues are deeply complex. News coverage often focuses on immediate developments without broader context, while pundit commentary can lack balance. Faculty, as researchers and educators, are uniquely positioned to offer grounded insight—clarifying issues, presenting diverse perspectives, and empowering readers to draw their own informed conclusions.

2. What can readers expect to find on the News & Insights page, and how is it different from traditional news coverage?
In addition to Q&A posts on major international developments, we’ll highlight commentary on overlooked but important global issues, such as political transitions in the Andean region or ongoing security challenges in the Sahel. You’ll also find media appearances and thought leadership by our faculty (In the News), along with updates on major accomplishments within our school (Noteworthy). Together, these provide a fuller picture of how the Hamilton Lugar School contributes to the global conversation.

3. How does engaging with News & Insights reflect the school’s mission?
Our mission is to foster enlightened global engagement in service of the public good. This begins with building awareness and understanding—of global systems, challenges, and opportunities. Through News & Insights, we aim to inspire inquiry, elevate voices, and encourage informed action. We hope readers will return often and share what they learn with others.
